Step-By-Step: How To Burn Incense Cones The Right Way

You have our incense cone in your hand and do not know how to light it? Don’t worry, we’ve got your back. When properly lit, an incense cone gives a cleaner aroma, steadier burn, and better incense benefits. Follow along our step-by-step guide below:

Step 1: Choose a safe, heat-resistant incense burner

Place the incense cone in a burner made of heat-resistant materials, such as marble, metal, or ceramic. Ensure that the burner is not near any flammable objects, such as a couch, cushion, or curtains.

Step 2: Light the tip of the cone until it glows

Use a match or lighter to heat the pointed tip for 10–15 seconds. You’ll see a small flame and a first curl of smoke.

Step 3: Gently blow out the flame, leave the ember

Once the cone is lit, make sure to blow away the flame, if any. We do not want fire, just the ember. It will only take a few seconds for your room to transform into a scented sanctuary.

Step 5: Stay present while it burns; don’t leave it unattended

Enjoy the scent for 25-35 minutes (varies by cone size and airflow). When you’re done,  the ash will stay warm for a while after so take care when disposing.
